Farewell, Tears

Lyrics & Composition: Ketsumeishi
Arrangement: Takashi Morio

Farewell tears, someday we'll be as happy as much as we've cried
The petals blooming in your heart are changing color
Farewell tears, the great waves soundlessly surge forward
So the story we've imagined opens its curtains
(Don't worry)
Farewell tears

You've been a halfwit, spoilt child until now
but you've changed somewhat recently, haven't you?
When you cried your heart out, did you make a breakthrough?
Have your emotional scars healed now?

From now on will be good things, so
say farewell to the tears you've shed
I'm sure if you change your viewpoint, it can grow bright
You can meet the you you want to be right away

You're fighting so much harder than before
And when I praise you like that, you get bashful
Experiencing love and work
You're somehow so much better than before

As long as we're alive, there'll be various happenings
So shall we look up from tomorrow?
You're great anyway now
The light of the day is brighter than yesterday

Farewell tears, someday we'll be as happy as much as we've cried
The petals blooming in your heart are changing color
Farewell tears, the great waves soundlessly surge forward
So the story we've imagined opens its curtains
(Don't worry)
Farewell tears

You have them, right? Times you want to cry
and times you want to be alone
The more your eyes swell
the more it's the proof that you've become serious

Your heart grows light as much as your tears
and you become a strong adult
Even memories blur in the coloring seasons
and pass as a faint past

If you look down, tears will just spill over
Open the curtains and just smile at the blue sky

It's okay; you've got it
Are you still relying on those tears?
Go see a new you
When your tears dry, your second chapter will start

You're tears appearing to shine like that
is the proof you're living seriously
so don't face down. While looking up at the sky, cry and cry
Oh tears, say good by
Say hello to my smile

Farewell tears, someday we'll be as happy as much as we've cried
The petals blooming in your heart are changing color
Farewell tears, the great waves soundlessly surge forward
So the story we've imagined opens its curtains
(Don't worry)
Farewell tears

  1. "Farewell tears" might not be a good translation for "Saraba Namida".

For example, "Farewell party" is the party which is held in the situation of farewell with sad feelings.
Likewise, "Farewell tears" are (sound like) the tears which are shed in the situation of farewell with sad feelings.

However, when a person says "Saraba namida", the person's intention is like this. "I say goodbye to my tears (to my weakness of the past). I don't shed tears any more."

"Saraba" means "Goodbye", and the "Goodbye" is said to "namida"(tears) in this situation.

It's just like the words at partings of daily life, such as "Goodbye, John" "Goodbye, Kate", etc.

I think "Farewell to tears" or "Goodbye, tears" or "Goodbye, my tears" is a better translation for "Saraba Namida".

I'm a Japanese, so I may have misunderstandings of the nuance of English. If so, please fogive me.

    1. Thank you for your input!

Actually, though, "farewell" doesn't necessarily mean that someone is parting with someone/something with sad feelings. "Farewell" is defined as such: "used to express good wishes on parting". Likewise, "Saraba" is can be translated as either "farewell" or "goodbye".

In any case, I appreciate your comment! It's nice to get someone else's view on a translation!

    2. So, basically what I think Joseph was trying to say is that "Farewell, Tears" means that the person is trying to say Farewell to the Tears as if it was someone it was talking to.

I hope this helps anyone who reads this :)
